Cider Glazed Turnips & Apples with Bacon

We are always looking for family friendly recipies for turnips.  This side dish is sure to be a hit!   Maybe with a nice pork chop! 

  • Heat skillet over medium add...       
    • 4 slices bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces   
  • Cook until crispy & remove bacon from pan
  • Pour out the bacon fat or leave if you love bacon as much as me! 
  • Add...
    • 2 Tbs. unsalted butter 
  • Melt butter 
  • Add...          
    • 1 to 1-1/2 pounds turnips (peeled & cut into peices 1/2" thick at widest)
    • 1 cup apple cider           
    • 2 tsp. granulated sugar           
    • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper   
  • Stir & put lid on pan.  Cook until tender (but not mushy) 8 minutes or so
  • Add...
    • 2 small tart apples  (Peeled and sliced)
  • Leave cover off pan and cook until sauce thickens & the apples are just cooked (and the turnips fully cooked)
  • Toss in bacon
  • Season to taste (salt and pepper)
  • ENJOY!
